In 1813 the scholar Gheorghe Asachi founded in Iasi the first school of land surveyors and civil engineers with instruction in the Romanian language. In 1912, it became The Polytechnic Institute of Iasi and it included departments of the electro-technical, applied chemical and agricultural sciences.
Currently “Gheorghe Asachi” Technical University integrates eleven universities:
